In 2018, Jun Takahashi and his UNDERCOVER label absorbed a sea of accolades for his sublime collaborative work with Nike and Converse on the footwear front. That streak of hits will certainly continue in the new year as we get a first look at a Nike Zoom Pegasus 35 Turbo under the
running-focused Gyakusou imprint inspired by the sport culture in Japan. This revised take on the Pegasus 35 Turbo sees a fully redesigned upper that features a conservative Swoosh logo blocking and a multi-layer upper that features lifted panels at the toe, mid-foot, and heel above a golden yellow layer and dark mesh base layer. A technical lacing arrangement offers a unique lock-down system with thin rope laces with a lace-lock to further stabilize the foot.
The Zoom Pegasus 35 Turbo may not get the attention as some of Nike’s lifestyle-focused footwear, but this high-performance running shoe, which already retails at $180, has the style and performance chops that should have the appeal among those who favor the React Element 87. This collaboration with Takahashi should galvanize the model a bit while potentially opening doors to other collaborations. Stay tuned for a release date as these are poised to drop early in 2019.
